American Idol Season 10 contestant Pia Toscano has signed a record deal with Jimmy Iovine's Interscope Records and her debut single will release July 12, with her full-length debut slated for later this year.
Hit doctor Esther Dean wrote Toscano's upcoming single "This Time." She has penned/co-produced a run of recent of hits for Rihanna, ("S&M," "Rude Boy" and "What’s My Name") and is featured on Nicki Minaj’s hit "Superbass."
Rodney Jerkins, himself no stranger to the Billboard charts as a producer, has worked with Toscano on three tracks and said fans should expect a "big, diva-sounding record."
It's no surprise to see Toscano teaming up with Iovine, who took an active role as a "mentor" on Season 10. Toscano came in 9th place this season and will participate in the summer American Idol Live tour, where you can bet she'll be singing "This Time" and possibly other songs from the as-yet titled debut.
While some high profile celebrities were unhappy with Toscano's early exit from the show, and so were the show's judges, but our resident AI expert was pleasantly surprised when she got the axe: "Steven Tyler tells Idol voters that 'lack of passion is unforgivable.' He's right, and that's why Pia was voted off…Totally uninspiring, she will be missed but not by me."
The single debuts next week. Are you excited? Have you already forgotten about Pia and the rest of the AI Season 10 contingent? Stay tuned for the BBS review of her first single next week.
