We have TheMouse, SeaWorld, and Universal Studios but we don't get a lot of great music coming through Orland. It seems most artists stop their Southern trek around Atlanta and when someone great does come to town, they don't often come back.
So you can imagine my surprise when I learned in January that there were plans to hold a music festival here in November. Put on by Festival Republic (the group that also puts on the festivals in Leeds and Reading among other places), the company says they chose Orlando because most airlines fly here and because of our great weather.
Since their initial press release on the event in January, things have been pretty quiet. A website with a map of the venue (Orlando's Citrus Bowl) was posted... and the rumors started. Radiohead and Arcade Fire were the two names mentioned the most so you can imagine my excitement today - the day that the lineup would be announced. I anxiously watched the tweets and upon seeing the first few... I was really unhappy. Kid Rock? Bob Seger? We can't be talking about the same festival can we?
Once my initial shock was over and I had the full lineup, I realized it's not as colossally bad as I thought. While we do have Blake Shelton, redemption is found with news that my beloved Avett Brothers, the Pixies, Iron and Wine, Brandi Carlile, Drive by Truckers, and the Killers will be there. It's not Radiohead, but it's something.
Here's the full line up by day. I echo the comments from the folks at Festival Republic - the weather here is awesome in November and we'd love to have you. If you plan on coming...drop me a line...I'll buy you a beer.
