Mexo-Americana darlings The David Wax Museum are back - and preparing for the release of their new record Knock Knock Get Up, which is being released on September 4th. In celebration of the new record, we are given some free Wax music, courtesy of the fine folks at Noisetrade. The free 5 song sampler features new tunes "Will You Be Sleeping" and "Vivian," as well as old favorites "Yes, Maria Yes," and "Born With a Broken Heart" - from the band's critically acclaimed 2011 record Everything is Saved. But the real fun of the sampler is the live rendition of "Persimmon Tree" - which features some blistering accordion work courtesy of Jordan Wax. I don't know about you, but I'm pretty much over the banjo revival of late. I'd like to personally start a rally for more squeeze box in modern music.
For those not familiar, the David Wax Museum features namesake David Wax on vocals and the jarana, and Suz Slezak also lending vocals as well as the fiddle and the quijada - which is a fancy word for a donkey jawbone. Yep, in the battle of most obscure musical instrument - the Wax Museum wins courtesy of the donkey jaw
The David Wax Museum is a breath of fresh air in a somewhat stale music scene. Their spirited live shows are a must see. The band was dubbed the "breakout act" of the Newport Folk Festival by Paste Magazine. If you're looking for a new band to love, and a sound that's truly unique - go now…right now…and download the free Noisetrade sampler. And mark your calendar for September 4th - as Knock Knock Get Up is sure to be one of the best albums of 2012.
