Great Gatsby, Vampire Weekend Top iTunes Albums, Macklemore & Lewis Hold Top Song

The star-studded soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's adatptioan of The Great Gatsby is the #1 album at iTunes for the past week with songs from artists like Beyonce, Florence + The Machine, Jack White, will.i.am, and Lana Del Rey. It's an ecclectic group of artists and that's what we've come to expect from Luhrmann's film soundtracks. I'm not at all surprised to see this doing well with listeners, for that reason.

Vampire Weekend doing well with the iTunes crowd is also something I'd expect and their latest album has drawn strong reviews from all across the web including here at BlindedBySound, where our own Chris Kjorness was quite impressed. I checked out their previous record in the hopes all the hype about them would translate into a new band for me to follow but it just didn't. It wasn't my thing but they've got a hell of a following and their third album is a hit with their crowd. Daft Punk has been selling a lot of digital copies via pre-order so I'm not surprised they didn't land #1 this week but have a feeling we'll be seeing Random Access Memory on the charts for some time as it, too, is getting a lot of buzz and many positive reviews. I should also mention that George Strait has released his 28th studio album and his fan base continues to gobble them up. I'm not a country guy but you cannot argue with Strait's track record. There's nothing to discuss; he's nothing short of legendary, period.

The singles chart is the vast wasteland I've come to expect where Lewis & Macklemore continue to hold the top spot by Selena Gomez is making a real push with two Top 5 singles. I'm not impressed with Gomez as a vocalist but many child stars have trouble keeping an audience as they age. I don't know how long Gomez can continue but she's had a longer shelf life than I would have predicted.

It took a few days longer to get to this than I planned but here are the top-selling songs and albums at iTunes.
