Florence And The Machine 'Ceremonials,' U2's 'Achtung Baby' at 20, Lou Reed/Metallica 'Lulu' Top Nov. 1 New CDs

The highlight that isn't versus the highlight that is... oh, and that Metallica/Lou Reed thing...

Florence + The Machine - CeremonialsLet's accentuate the positive on this first day of November, the first New Release Tuesday of the month: Florence + The Machine. Ceremonials. Seriously. The Deluxe Edition is on its way to my house and really I don't know why I should have to be at work on such a day. We've given you all the details about the record and unveiled the video to "Shake It Off," the amazing first official single from the record. I've heard three songs from the album and love them all. This is going to be epic and easily the best thing that will happen to me all day.

U2 - Achtung Baby 20th AnniversaryFlorence would always have been a highlight but the major upset is today's highlight should have been the 20th Anniversary Edition of Achtung Baby from U2. It's one of two landmark records of their career and one I love and revere. I'm a sucker for these super deluxe editions except, it seems, when U2 does it. There are varied rumors about whether or not the album has been remastered or simply given an EQ boost because, you know, when you're offering pacakges that range from $30-$500 you want to be as clandestine with the fucking details as humanly possible. We know Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions are getting the same Sydney DVD that's been available for five years and the same copy of Zooropa they already have. This was an incredible album and they told us in interviews that had tons of stuff none of us have ever seen and heard and that will still be true after this 20th Anniversary Edition has come and gone. I'm sure there will be great and exciting unrevealed moments but there's no way they didn't miss an opportunity to create a special experience with a special album.

Metallica And Lou ReedI don't know how we can not talk about the collaboration of Lou Reed and Metallica, Lulu. I own every official Metallica release with the exception of St. Anger, which I'm never going to buy. I think we can add this to that list but caution: there are going to be scores of critics and bloggers who've had their knives out for this from the moment it was announced. I hope some listeners give it a chance. I hope some reviewers do as well. I can't bring myself to want to hear this one but somebody should listen to it honestly and evaluate it on the merits. I'll be too busy listening to my Deluxe Edition of Ceremonials for that.
