The National Resume US Tour In Raleigh, NC (June 10, 2013)

The National resume their tour after a one-night break...

The National resumed their tour after a day off and again made a couple minor setlist mods. "Secret Meeting" has been a regular on recent tours but hasn't been played most nights at this early stage on the Trouble Will Fine Me tour. It was sandwiched between "Bloodbuzz Ohio" and "Sea Of Love" last night in Raleigh. Another song that has been an every nighter for quite some time, "Slow Show," also came out last night. "All The Wine" stayed in the set for the second consecutive show, which is a bit of a surprise.

"Slow Show" and "All The Wine" both rate as unwelcome surprises for me. I think most National fans like "Slow Show" more than I do so that's a personal things. I don't know what the consensus on "All The Wine" is but it's never been a favorite. I want to get them on the phone and tell them there are at least three other songs from Alligator they should be playing that don't get (often) played. "Geese Of Beverly Road" is arguably their best song or certainly among the Top 5. "Lit Up" is a great song that, by their standards, rocks and would fit nicely in their set, perhaps after "Sea Of Love." "City Middle" is a personal favorite and I thought I was the only one who wanted to hear it until skimming a thread on the band's discussion forum and discovering there are many other fans of this one.

"Slow Show," "Apartment Song," and "Squalor Victoria" seem like they're more popular with the masses than with me. I can think of other Boxer songs I'd like to see played, particularly because those have been played so...damn...much on these past two tours. Let's dust "Brainy" off. I know "Graceless" from Trouble Will Find Me is a better version of "Brainy" but let's play it anyway. Let's get "Start A War" back out there as well. I'd be happy to clube all three of those more often played songs in exchange for "Brainy," "War," and something from the pre-Alligator records. At the very least, let's rotate these. Play one of them every night and mix things up in the other two slots. We can make this happen. I have solutions, lads. Call me. We can tune up what are already very, very good setlists.
