Pia Toscano - This TimePia Toscano’s long-awaited debut single “This Time” is finally here and if this is any indication of the material on her upcoming album (due later this year through Interscope Records), I'll pass, thank you.

Ester Dean has written hits for Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, co-wrote “I Love You This Big” for the winner of last season’s American Idol- Scotty McCreery and penned “This Time” for Pia. It's radio friendly, very vanilla and forgettable. It never seems to take off and her voice doesn’t even sound as big and broad as it did on Idol. I listen to it on repeat about four times and my own snoring woke me up halfway through the fifth listen.

“This Time” is a mid-tempo song and the style suits her voice and abilities. I see her going down this path for her career, of course sprinkling in power ballads anywhere she can. As for the song itself, with lyrics like “Well I'm mad as hell I ain't gon' take it no more” delivered with the ferocity of a kitten, I knew it was going to be a long three minutes.

I don’t know what I was expecting since this isn’t the genre of music I gravitate toward but I know I was looking for more than I got. If you’re a Pia fan you’re getting exactly what you’d expect from her and anyone on the fence, go ahead and pick it up, for a dollar you’ve got nothing to lose and you may even get a good nap out of it.
