MIKA has made a career out of sophisticated, layered pop music. Best known for his 2007 hit "Grace Kelly," a song that was No. 1 in the UK for five weeks, he has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and has received over 115 million video views online. With comparisons to Queen and Elton John, among others, it is not surprising that MIKA would attempt to try his hand at orchestral versions of his own songs. He first tried this with a series of concerts in Montreal, QC, in 2014. Conducted by Canadian composer Simon LeClerc, the results were good enough that he recreated the event in 2015 at the Teatro Sociale, a 19th century concert hall, in Como, Italy. The show was filmed and makes up the Blu-ray MIKA -- Sinfonia Pop.

The show opens with a majestic overture and stunning visuals of the opera house. The music sounds as if it is straight from a Disney film, as it has that certain magic about it. Wearing a suit adorned with birds flying, MIKA takes the stage for a dramatic "Underwater." His vocals soar on this stunning pop piece. "Boum Boum Boum" follows, a playful pop track that translates effortlessly to the orchestral experience. MIKA shows he is as adept at singing in French as he is English.

MIKA gives a spirited performance on "Rain," a song that pushes the limits of his vocal range while "Last Party" showcases some excellent harmonies from his group. MIKA gives a theatrical performance on his signature song, "Grace Kelly." Both here and throughout, his vocals are strong and his vocal range impressive.

The show closes with a potent "Stardust," a pop track that builds in intensity as it progresses. It is yet another chance to show off his vocal range and a dramatic way to end the performance.

The video is presented in 1080i High Definition Widescreen 16x9 (1.78:1) and is beautifully filmed. The colors are rich and vibrant and the venue looks spectacular. Audio options include LPCM Stereo and DTS-HS Master Audio. An interview with MIKA and Simon LeClerc is included as a bonus feature.

MIKA's theatrical pop music translates effortlessly to a symphonic setting. For fans of his work, MIKA -- Sinfonia Pop offers a unique way to hear these well-crafted songs and showcases an artist at the top of his game.
