The 3rd Annual Roots And Blues Benefit To Suppot The Sean Costello Memorial Fund For Bipolar Research is scheduled for September 29 in Atlanta and the lineup for the event includes some of the biggest names in blues and roots music.
The benefit concert will be held at North Atlanta High Center For The Arts and scheduled to appear are guitarist Tinsley Ellis, harp legend and co-founder of the Fabulous Thunderbirds Kim Wilson, and Gina Sicilia and Dave Gross. In addition, Virgina Martinez will front Sean Costello's original band and there will also be performances by special guest Jon Justice and Truett Lollis.
Not only are those some seriously great names, but many of these musicians knew, recorded, and performed with Costello and are now coming together to honor him and help raise money for the foundation that bears his name.
Sean Costello was a rising blues star whose life was cut tragically short the day before his 29th birthday in 2008, and his struggle with Bipolar Disorder was a contributing factor in his untimely passing. His life was cut short but he made an impact as an artist, gaining the respect of peers and mentors alike. The impact Sean's life, work, and death had on the blues world continues as Sean's Fund raises money to help fund research to treat Bipolar Disorder, a mental illness that affects nearly 3 out of every 100 adults.
Costello released five solo albums during his lifetime and two posthumous releases have followed, including a live compilation called At Hist Best - Live, issued last year.
Tickets for The 3rd Annual Roots And Blues Benefit To Suppot The Sean Costello Memorial Fund For Bipolar Research are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. For more information, you can check out his foundation's web site.
